Is QuakeTown mod worth it? (video)

Updated: Jan 16, 2023

Magic created a mod titled QuakeTown. 888 visited QuakeTown on and off and (aside from Gun Girl and Magic) found himself on the server alone on many occasions. The mod at first glance is very challenging. This is one of the things I loved about it in single player mode. It’s very challenging for a player going up against a new environment. A player must figure out a way to leverage up on new terrain. I remember 888 leaving DM and going to QuakeTown with the determination to overcome. 888 explored and it was exciting facing the elements, not knowing what to expect. Then 888 overcame, not only did he overcome, he thrived. It was a huge accomplishment. That was really fun, being there alone and figuring out how to dominate. 888 became Magic's test subject. Players started seeing 888 on the server and decided to come in and check it out. Tranny Tren and Beav were among the crowd. Beav gets a brilliant idea to invite the entire world to the mod, including players who are not fond of 888. I get what Shloo and the TDMers mean by not inviting the world to their shindig.

One of the invites went to some guy named ToRc and his sidepiece Sleeper. The minute ToRc gets on the server he starts talking trash to 888 and rallying players against 888. Spreading lies to get players on his side to overtake 888. 888 is the biggest player on the server and 888 sees what ToRc is doing along with his girlfriend Sleeper. They were down playing their agenda so 888 wouldn't just kill them repeatedly, they needed time to get stronger. 888 sees where this is going, chooses not to enforce kill rage on them, but rather push an alliance. They don’t want an alliance. This confirms their agenda. ToRc has a weasel mentality and is followed blindly by players like Sleeper. One day they contrived to jump 888 eight-on-one with no success in killing 888, they continued to bully 888 throughout the game simply because 888 is the strongest and they hated 888 prior. 888 was never killed once, although ToRc and his affiliates tried on several occasions. ToRc is a piece of garbage who pretends to be nice, so this was expected. He buys players' allegiance with lies and gives them crumbs (chump change and small guns), like the dirty politician of the town.

So 888 comes back and manages to kill ToRc several times, but is this the game? Is this what 888 wants to play? 888 asked Magic before what the point of the game was? Because after you dominate the terrain of the map and thrive (as a single player), purpose kind of goes out the door. If I want to just kill players, I would go to the DM and do that all day. Purpose was given to DM (and other servers with WallFly) by keeping stats on progression and the reality of a player. Spawn Girl was huge on stats as well. Before Quadz departed this earth, there used to be stats showing very detailed information on players. In that, you could see how 888 would dominate on your favorite players as The Top Killer.

But having enemies in QuakeTown makes no sense. You spawn in the same Town as your enemies. Your enemy knows where you are and what you are doing. It doesn’t get the strategic juices flowing. Every clan should have their own terrain. I mentioned this to Magic and he said clan/team coding is in the works. Magic also said he likes the idea of each clan having their own terrain, but coding takes time. The project was started nine months ago, but it needs a lot of work. Again, single player against the elements, exciting when you overcome. It’s not exciting asking for help all the time, that's kind of cheating and takes away from the experience. ToRc and Sleeper observed 888’s strategy/hustle/grind and just copied it to move up. They don’t have natural intelligence. Gun Girl has more intelligence. Lol, she lured 888 out of QuakeTown (where you are protected) and proceeded to hunt him like a dog. It was great. She died in the end, but she gave her all and almost had 888. 888 fumbled to get a machine gun, trying to fight monsters, and you have Gun Girl in a corner shooting rails at 888. It was fun. 888 adopted Gun Girl’s strategy to lure ToRc’s dumbass out and kill him repeatedly. ToRc got so paranoid that he started killing innocent players thinking they were part of the 888 alliance.

Anyways, 888 was never worried about ToRc and his sinister plans with Sleeper. 888 was looking at the overall picture of the game. As the mod stands now, after you dominate the terrain (better experience if you do it alone), you can just sit on the server and kill the same monsters to get ranked up. However, there is no new strategy required in building up to take over. It becomes stagnant. The monotony might drive a player insane. Some people enjoy the stagnant life without growth. 888 and Spawn Girl have never been that kind of person, they always strive to achieve that greater purpose. The game needs real purpose, needs a lot of work, but has a lot of potential.

888 and Beav throwing down on some monsters (QuakeTown)

888 trying to not hit Beav, and get out of Beav's way so 888 doesn't get hit. Beav be just firing like a madman out there with little regard to your safety. Get the heck out Beav's way when he is firing a rocket launcher!! It's like he blacks out and fires wildly. And Beav will jump in the line-of-sight fire of your weapon, it's like he thinks he is invincible. `

You might be able to see all the glitches and lag. Server is on laptop, but Magic says he plans to upgrade.
